In December for the last thirty years, I have been in observer mode. I used to appreciate activities for Christmas. It was fun to plan and execute things that family and friends liked. I used to bake dozens of cookies. The Super Shooter made it fun to create even more dough, expanding the kinds of cookies I made. I still have mine in storage. It was unused since 1993. I looked online and saw they are still available for purchase. Yeah!
When I moved out of the country, my boyfriend was not a Christmas celebrator. That was insignificant because our focus was on our professional tracks. The holidays, all of them, would come and go. I was not focused on what I did in the states despite the presence of celebration around us. Since my husband’s death seven years ago, I became more aware of just “watching”, despite having the craft and cookie-making gene.
I do watch Hallmark movies. They remind me of the love I have (yes, have, despite that he no longer has a body, he is still present) for my husband. In these stories, other viewers and I joke that couples fall in love within a week, and appear to have no sex. Women do have activities. They surmount adversity with genius. Doing, and investing in a project achieves an end; they are interesting ideas.
Night at Josiah’s Bay, Tortola by Allison Williams Hill
We lived in the Caribbean for the majority of our life together. December was cool there. Time was the common factor between there and where we lived in different locations in the northeast US. The end of the year is the same in either place. My brother and, shortly after, my mother passed in 2020. The only person I’m close to is my sister. She has her own family. I feel there is no reason to work at or create during this holiday season anymore. Those I had in mind, who existed, and I watched enjoy the time are no longer in the physical. I have isolated myself from my cousins. It’s better this way.
I hope your holiday was an enjoyable one. I did smile here. I’m assuming people read this. Time for a string of “laughing hard and tearing” emojis.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

A health coach (or health counselor) is a wellness guide and supportive mentor. Together, we’ll work to achieve your goals in areas such as achieving optimal weight, food cravings, sleep, and energy. Through working with me, you’ll develop a deeper understanding of the foods and lifestyle choices that work best for you and implement lasting changes that will improve your energy, balance, and health.
I practice a holistic approach to health and wellness, which means that I look at how all areas of your life are connected. Does stress at your job or in your relationship cause you to overeat? Does lack of sleep or low energy prevent you from exercising? As we work together, we look at how all parts of your life affect your health as a whole.
I lead workshops on nutrition and offer individual and group health and nutrition counseling. I realized a dream to study at The Institute for Integrative Nutrition and it changed my life. Let me support you to change yours.
